Frequently asked questions
Everything people usually want to know before they send us anything.
Neither. We are an attorney matching and advertising platform. We don't employ attorneys, we don't give legal advice, and we are not a lawyer referral service certified by a bar association. We forward your request to independent, participating attorneys who handle that kind of matter in your area.
No. Submitting a request is free and there is no obligation to hire anyone. Participating attorneys pay us a marketing fee to receive inquiries; that fee is not passed on to you and does not change the attorney's rates.
Attorney availability varies by state and practice area. We accept requests from anywhere in the United States, and if no participating attorney is available for your matter and location, we'll tell you by email and point you to your state bar's lawyer referral service.
We match on two things: the practice area you selected and your location. Your request is forwarded to up to four participating attorneys or law firms who have told us they accept that type of matter in your area. We don't rank attorneys by skill or results, and we don't auction requests.
A matched attorney or their intake staff will reach out using the method you selected on the form, phone, email or text. We may also contact you to confirm a detail. If you opted in to our text program, you'll get updates from us as well.
We route requests promptly after they're submitted. Attorney response times depend on the attorney's availability, and are usually during their business hours.
Many participating attorneys offer a no-cost initial consultation, but each attorney sets their own policy. It's a fair question to ask in the first minute of the call, and a good attorney will answer it directly.
No. You can decline, ask questions, compare, or walk away at any time. Nothing on this site commits you to anything.
If your matter is urgent or a deadline may be near, contact an attorney directly or call your state bar association's lawyer referral service. In an emergency, call 911. Submitting a request here does not preserve any deadline.
We use it to route your request to matched attorneys, to communicate with you about it, and to operate and improve the service. We don't sell the text-messaging opt-in information you give us. The full picture is in our Privacy Policy.
No. Our text program (The Advocate Path Updates) is optional and is a separate checkbox on the form. You can use the service without it. If you opt in, message frequency varies (up to 8 msgs/month), message and data rates may apply, and you can reply STOP at any time to cancel or HELP for help.
Reply STOP to any text from us to cancel the text program. To withdraw consent to be contacted by us or matched attorneys, email info@theadvocatepath.com and we will process the request promptly. You can also tell an attorney's office directly that you don't want further contact.
Yes. Email info@theadvocatepath.com or use the form on our Your Privacy Choices page. We'll confirm when it's done. Attorneys who already received your request keep their own records under their own policies.
